Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 s&rsquo;appelle Integrated Structural Assembly of Advanced Composites (ISAAC). Le syst\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Electroimpact, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;automatisation a\u00e9rospatiale tr\u00e8s exp\u00e9riment\u00e9e, avec l&rsquo;aide \u00e9troite de la NASA Langley. ISAAC se compose d&rsquo;une version modifi\u00e9e d&rsquo;un robot industriel KUKA standard et d&rsquo;une grande t\u00eate rotative en forme de disque qui peut contenir jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 16 bobines de ruban de fibre de carbone. ISAAC utilise des changeurs d&rsquo;outils robotiques ATI dans la t\u00eate de l&rsquo;effecteur final, ce qui permet de le d\u00e9tacher automatiquement et de le remplacer par un autre identique charg\u00e9 d&rsquo;outils diff\u00e9rents. Les composites conventionnels utilis\u00e9s dans la production actuelle sont constitu\u00e9s de nombreuses couches de fibres orient\u00e9es \u00e0 0, 45 et 90 degr\u00e9s. ISAAC peut les disposer le long d&rsquo;une trajectoire incurv\u00e9e, selon un sch\u00e9ma sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7u pour accro\u00eetre la r\u00e9sistance et les performances. Cette fonction sp\u00e9cifique permet aux fabricants de l&rsquo;a\u00e9rospatiale de cr\u00e9er des corps d&rsquo;avions ou de vaisseaux spatiaux plus r\u00e9sistants. Les premi\u00e8res missions d&rsquo;ISAAC consisteront \u00e0 travailler pour les missions de recherche a\u00e9ronautique. ISAAC pourra \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 pour produire d&rsquo;autres \u00e9quipements de qualit\u00e9 a\u00e9ronautique et des structures adapt\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;a\u00e9ro\u00e9lasticit\u00e9 pour les essais en soufflerie. Cette technologie a \u00e9t\u00e9 qualifi\u00e9e d'\u00a0\u00bbincroyable\u00a0\u00bb par les groupes qui y travaillent, car elle apporte une valeur ajout\u00e9e \u00e0 presque tous les processus, ce qui la rend indispensable.
